Curious Monkey is the North East’s first theatre company of Sanctuary. Our work shares stories of underrepresented communities, raising awareness of the issues they face. Our projects promote inclusion & celebrate diversity. Our productions are inspired by and developed with the people we work with. Currently our programme focuses on people who are seeking sanctuary and young people with experience of the care system.

Change minds and influence people: Positively challenge prejudice; influence systems and society; improve individuals’ self esteem.

Care: Look after and take care of our participants, audiences and staff. Emulate best practice working with vulnerable people.

Tell authentic stories: Representing, not presenting. Making challenging subjects accessible.

Take artistic risks: Experimenting with new forms and style to tell stories of underrepresented communities, and empowering them to be at the heart of the process
